Pet Loss Counselling and End-of-Life Support

Death Doula for Pets | Pet Loss Counsellor

Compassionate support during challenging times

Loving a pet means facing difficult decisions and, eventually, loss. Whether you are caring for an ageing or unwell pet, considering euthanasia, planning for your pet's end of life or grieving after a loss, I provide compassionate pet end-of-life support, pet loss counselling and pet death doula services.

Quality of life

You’ve likely heard the term “quality of life” in discussions with your family vet. Evaluating your pet’s quality of life is a very personal and subjective process, influenced by their unique personality, specific illness and your own values and beliefs. Many people find themselves questioning whether their pet is still enjoying life, whether they may be suffering and whether the time to consider euthanasia is approaching.

Just like humans, every pet experiences and responds to illness, pain and physical changes differently. While there is rarely a clear-cut answer, pet quality-of-life assessment tools can help guide conversations with your veterinarian and support informed decisions about end-of-life care.

Open and honest discussions with your veterinarian are an important part of understanding your pet's condition and exploring the options available to you.

Are you concerned about your pet's quality of life?

Many people believe they will "just know" when their pet's suffering outweighs their enjoyment of life, but quality-of-life decisions are often far more complex than that.

The Pet Quality of Life Scale and Quality of Life Calendar are designed to help you track changes, recognise patterns and support informed decision-making in consultation with your vet.

How I Can Support You

Every pet, every family and every situation is different. Whether your pet is ageing, living with illness, approaching the end of life, or has already died, I provide compassionate, non-medical and non-clinical support tailored to your circumstances.

I can support you with:

  • Understanding quality of life and recognising when your pet's needs may be changing

  • Exploring end-of-life care options and preparing for difficult decisions

  • Talking through euthanasia and helping you feel informed and supported in your choice

  • Navigating anticipatory grief and the emotions that often arise before a pet dies

  • Planning meaningful ways to honour, celebrate and remember your pet

  • Supporting children, family members and others affected by your pet's illness or death

  • Processing feelings of guilt, doubt, anger, sadness or relief following a loss

  • Creating practical plans for your pet's care if you become seriously ill or die

  • Providing a compassionate, non-judgemental space to talk openly about your experience

As a Pet Death Doula and Pet Bereavement Counsellor, I do not provide veterinary advice, medical recommendations or clinical assessments. My role is to provide emotional support, practical guidance and a compassionate presence during what can be a deeply challenging time.

You do not have to navigate this experience alone. Support is available before, during and after the loss of a beloved pet.

Unable to Attend Your Pet's Euthanasia Appointment?

While many people wish to be present when their pet dies, circumstances do not always make that possible. Illness, distance, work commitments, caring responsibilities or simply the emotional difficulty of the situation can sometimes make attending impossible.

If you are unable to be there, I may be able to attend your pet's euthanasia appointment on your behalf, providing a calm and compassionate presence so they are not alone in their final moments.

Please contact me to discuss your circumstances and whether this support may be available.

Why Work With Me?

As a qualified Pet Bereavement Counsellor and Death Doula, I provide non-medical and non-clinical support for both pets and the people who love them during a pet's illness, ageing and end-of-life journey. Following a pet's death, I support individuals and families through the grief and bereavement process. Alongside my professional training, I bring personal experience of loving and losing companion animals and I understand the profound impact that their loss can have on our lives. My role is to provide compassionate support, practical guidance and a calm presence during what can be one of life's most difficult experiences.
